Continued Evidence Points to Major Issues in VA Health care System
As the VA scandal continues to unravel, more evidence has been released over recent months concerning the systematic problems in the VA health care system. The issues have proven a common theme in VA facilities throughout the United States. Contrary to the VA's effort to cover up the manipulation of data reflecting patient wait times, dedicated whistle blowers at the VA continue to assist in Congress' effort to reveal and correct deficiencies in VA health care. Among those VA Whistle blowers who testified before Congress about the deficiencies in patient care are former Chief of Psychiatry for the St. Louis VA office, Dr. Jose Mathews.
Dr. Mathews was removed from his position after disclosing that some of his fellow psychiatrists were cutting their work days short and denying patients timely access to medical care. Dr. Mathews is currently represented by Attorney Ariel Solomon of the Solomon Law Firm, PLLC after filing a federal whistle blower complaint against the VA health care system. The Los Angeles Times and the Chicago Tribune are among some of the many news outlets who provided coverage the VA's retaliation against him and his status as a federal employee whistle blower. Dr. Mathews told Fox News that of all problems that existed at the VA for federal employees and federal whistle blowers, the thing that left the greatest impression was the “extremely low sense of caring for the patient.” U.S. Senator, Roy Blunt (R-MO) echoed Dr. Mathews' concerns in a recent statement issued by his office; where he patently stated that the malfeasance disclosed by Dr. Mathews is "absolutely unacceptable.” He reiterated his Office's dedication to supporting veterans and veteran health care for his constituents.
