Each year, the candidates for the "
Super Lawyers®" list are peer-nominated, though promising candidates are also chosen by the
Super Lawyers® research team, which is led by attorneys, according to the
website. One aspect of the selection process involves the organization's research
department assigning points to each candidate in 12 key areas. These are
areas that are used to measure the attorney's level of peer recognition
and professional achievement. A few of the areas include verdicts and
settlements, special certifications and licenses, and experience, among
other areas. Next is the peer review stage, in which the candidates are
rated from one to ten by other attorneys in similar practice areas who
make up a special review panel. In the end, the lawyers' points are
tallied and those with the highest point totals are included in the
Super Lawyers® list.
